I suggest you find a gem/lapidary club in your neighborhood or failing that find a lapidary or gem cutter who is willing to give you offcuts and advice to expand your expertise in gem identification.

There are many legit gem auction websites like Gemrockauctions.com
There are also hundreds of legit/trustworthy loose gem dealers in FB groups. Members are quick to weed out the scammers
