Indian Rubies

Why do rubies from India have such a low value?

Hello.

It is mostly because that they are of very low quality.

It’s because they are crap.

Heated, dyed, and glass-filled

Unfortunately, and although India has a historical reputation as a gem producing and gem cutting nation, the Indian government allows rogue and counterfeit operators to peddle crap imitation or doctored stones to the world often with bogus certificates. (This doesn’t happen with Indian gold or very rarely.) This means that cheap Indian stones get into the market place and on sites such as Etsy. So, if it looks like a fabulous bargain then it probably came from India.

I am not going to disagree :joy: but there are some gems from India that are worth buying, thaw it would advised to actually knowing a bit of gemmology and going for a working holiday to examen exactly what it is that you are buying, and what it has bin done to it if any treatment has bin done.
There are some very good gems still coming out of India just not over internet purchase!.
just always be sure to protect your self when buying anywhere from any seller!!! get to know your gems and attributes there of on IGS FORUMS! and there amazing study material maybe even try and exam or two in the mini Cours section.
