Unknown rock

Is this a gem of some sort?

Stone ID from photos is very unreliable. That said, I saw photos of a specimen yesterday that looked like this and it was supposedly a smokey quartz with yellow inclusions that looked like threads of a straw color. Interesting, but not expensive. If you don’t have gemology skills, contact an officer of the local gem and mineral club and see if someone in the club who is proficient in gem and rock ID will look at your stone. When local clubs have a show, they often have a geologist/gemologist at a table to ID material that the public brings in.

I agree. Pictures are unreliable for an ID. It looks small and thin, Is it dense? It looks like the transculenct area is mostly host rock. Can you post more information?

No home runs there!
