Taafeite value

This gem has been identified by the Raman detector os the Gemology Center of Bahia as Taafeite. It weights 1,32 ct. Anybody has an idea of the value os such a gem?

Lilac and light purple are the rarest colors for Taaffeite with a price point around $1,500/ct and higher.

Colorless, green, blue, pink, and red stones have lower price points, ranging from $200 - $1000/ct.

That is a very nice looking stone! :sunglasses:

So wrong! Red taaffeite is the rarest of all. It can reach 35000$ per carat. Pink white and all pale ones have low value. Not red

Hi Eric,

Thanks for pointing that out. Seems I was very wrong. Red is being identified as the rarest color. Everything I found so far placed price points on the violet to light purple. Which in hindsight is probably due to those being “more” common.

Is there a reference on price-point for the red? More information is definitely good to have.

I found a 1.92 ct red taaffeite here Red Taaffeite Ring with D Flawless Diamonds set in 18K White Gold – Kat Florence was being quoted at € 104,673

Quite unique design and weight saving cut.

Cheers!

When you mention Bahia gemology center, are you refering to the GIA branch office there?
Make absolutely sure that it is taffeite. If it is, you’ve got something that is worth a lot… tafeitte is a million times as scarce as diamonds. Magnesium in pegmatites are a rare and unusual combination.

Question on the color of the stone. Red Taaffeite should have a violet/purple tint. The stone is presenting some orange. I cannot find any reference to that type of dichroic behavior.
