Looking for recommendations on a benchtop EDXRF spectrometer for a small gem lab. Interested in reliable models specifically suited for gemstone analysis, ease of use, and maintenance requirements. If you use one, please share your experience and whether it was worth the investment. Thanks so much!
Thermo Fisher scientific has a nice benchtop model. It’s between 35 and 50k depending on what you want basically. It doesn’t cost much for the consumables and the service contract is approximately 5 to 10 percent of the purchase price depending on what you require for service. Most of the benchtop models the x-ray tube replacement is included. They normally last 5 to 7 years depending on environmental conditions and usage. The hand held models are about half the cost but are not nearly as capable as the bench top models. And if course if you want the best you need a floor model that is about 500k for a quality unit. Lol.
Thermo Fisher has all scientific instruments. Malvern Paraanalytical also make professional quality machines., Brubaker is another company that makes hand held XRF. All of these tools are very expensive. Are you in a large volume commercial operation?
Nope just a retired well off nerd. Lol lol. With the handicap of perfectionism.
if you can afford to spend the money, be my guest. Academic and commercial labs will do analysis for a fee. SIMS MS is less destructive than LA ICP MS. EMPA is the least destructive. These are the gold standards for isotopic and trace element analysis, but they only analyze the surface.
