Precision Saws – What Features Matter Most?

I’m comparing different precision saws for sectioning brittle materials and preparing samples where edge quality is more important than cutting speed. In my experience, factors like blade selection, fixturing, feed rate, and coolant have a much bigger impact on cut quality than RPM alone.

For those doing precision sectioning, what has made the biggest difference in reducing chipping and subsurface damage: low-speed cutting, gravity feed, or simply using the right blade for the material?

Low-speed cutting and proper blade selection is my primary concern, however, there are thresholds where too slow of a cutting speed can actually induce additional vibration into the material / blade contact surface, so the feed rate becomes a factor as well.
