Hello there,
I have read that the polar bear insignia, which brands diamonds of Canadian origin, hence the Polar Bear Diamonds, is making a comeback.
For FYI purposes, in case you were not familiar with these diamonds, Diamonds de Canada unveiled a special limited collection of 16,000 Polar Bear Diamonds, which reflects Canada’s current polar bear population. The Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine, located on the Canadian tundra in the Northwest Territories, is a joint venture between Mountain Province Diamonds (49%) and De Beers Canada (51%). The mine officially opened on September 20, 2016, and is considered the world’s largest new diamond mine, expected to produce an average of 4.5 million carats annually over a 12-year mine life.
Have the Polar Bear Diamonds, in fact, gained global recognition, and if so, how do diamond aficionados view them? Are diamond collectors interested in them due to their rarity? They are very expensive and guaranteed to be conflict-free; however, the Kimberley Act has leveled the playing field in the trade by ensuring that rough diamonds only come from legitimate sources.
Anyway, as I am new to this fascinating world of gemology, I would love to hear what the experts, you folks, think.
Cheers
