Petrified wood?

I found this in a pile of stones we got delivered.
The stones are from a layer before sand come. Around 7 meter down.
Is it petrified wood? image image image image

Hard to tell from the images.
It looks like it could be petrified wood. It also looks like it could be weathered sandstone, or other layered sedimentary stone. Other than testing its physical properties, another way to determine if it is petrified wood vs, sandstone, is to smooth one side where there appears to be grain, then try to polish that side. If it fails to polish, then it is not petrified wood. If it polishes, use magnification to get a better view of the grain structure. From there, compare the structure to known examples of petrified wood.
