Is fiery red a color of Rubies?

Is “Fiery Red” the name of the newest, most valuable color of Rubies ?

As a marketing term, sure. As a technical gemological description, of course not.

I prefer, pigeon blood,or oxblood red …

No.

I’ve never heard ‘fiery red’ used, but ‘fire engine red’ can be useful when discussing colour because every fire engine I have ever seen in the USA or Canada are the exact same red.

That said, I don’t imagine we will see the trade adopt it any time soon!

I can’t remember the last time I actually saw a ruby, but I’ll hazard a guess nonetheless. Because of the electronic structure of chromium and its corundum host, rubies fluoresce under UV light; and when they fluoresce they do so in the red end of the spectrum. I would therefore expect that under the sun or fluorescent lighting they might appear to be a more brilliant red color. Perhaps that is what you refer to as “fiery”?

Hi a lot of African ruby has a fair bit of iron in the structure which dulls the fluorescence and makes the ruby look a bit like garnet. but the term Pidgeon Blood is bandy around for a lot of ruby colour now but does anyone know the colour or true Pidgeon Blood ruby
