We found some white rock with many black tourmaline imbedded in it. How do you get the Tom Aline out without destroying it?
In my experience schorl is frequently brittle and perhaps previously fractured within the matrix. It is frequently very difficult to extract from the matrix intact. I’d suggest diamond sawing the matrix apart until you get one crystal per piece, then using carving techniques to thin the matrix. You may be able to chip some chunks of matrix off with a hammer and chisel, depending on how solid your crystals are.
