I’m an IGS gem student. I have been trying to source mixed gem bundles for practice identification. I have looked at Amazon, Ebay, and GemRock Auctions. I don’t know where else to go. If you could point me in the direction of a supplier I will be able to purchase gem bundles. Regards, Linda
Hi Linda!
There are some good sources for gemstones out there. If you are looking for verified gemstone species to have as good reference examples, check out the IGS Business Section
Several active members are listed there including The Concierge Gemologist, The Diamond Grader, and All That Glitters to name a few. They might be able to offer a bundle for you.
I also suggest reaching out both of vendors below, as I have been very satisfied with my purchases and interactions.
Peter Nelson a.k.a The Gem Shepard. Peter can provide quality stones in a bundle and will work with your budget.
Joe Henley of Joe Henley Rough & Gemstones Joe and his team are fantastic to work with. Most of their inventory is rough material but occasionally they find and offer cut gemstones.
It is definitely a hit/miss when dealing with Amazon, eBay, Etsy and GemRock Auctions. I have used all of them. The results have been anything from… “Oh, Wow! What a find!”
to “Yup, I knew this was too good to be true” ![]()
Cheers!

Hello Troy, Thank you for your advice. I certainly appreciate your time and recommendations. I am now off to make the contacts and get some gem bundles for practice identifications. Regards, Linda
You are welcome!
Recommend adding some synthetic stones to your reference kit, too. Knowing how to identify them from natural stones is becoming more prevalent in today’s market.
My reference kit has a mixture of both.
Cheers!

Her is the email address for a friend of mine. He sells rough he understands what loupe and eye clean means. Unlike a lot of people. Lol. I talked to him about your request and sent you a private message with his email. I don’t know if you received it. He has a brick and mortar store also and will give you a great price because you are a student. He also has many included stones. His name is Andrew Moser. His email is andrewmoser81@yahoo.com. Give him a shout. I’m sure you will be very happy.
