Hello, I am very new to gem collecting but have recently come across Grandidiarite, can anyone tell me more about this beautiful gemstone please.
Hi Sue! Welcome to the forum!
If you haven’t found this IGS article already, here is a good read on Grandidierite.
The gemstone is definitely on the rare side when it comes to transparent specimens. I have a couple of small stones in my inventory, one is fairly transparent, the others are more on the opaque and included side of clarity, but the color in all of them is definitely eye-catching. ![]()
Cheers!
I have a Grandidiarite… a very large specimen in fact. Completely transparent and eye clean. However, I’m almost 100% positive that it isn’t real. It’s one of those “E-bay” finds which of course one should always be wary of. You know the deal… it even comes with a certification! Uh huh… right.. sure, and I’ve got a copy of your uncles wanted poster hanging in my shop… he’s wanted somewhere in India for issuing fake certificates for huge Grandidiarites! So, yeah I’m pretty sure I was scammed. Actually it was my friend who was scammed and I just took it off his hands. It is a pretty stone and I thought I might use it for something. Of course, I’ll state “Faux Grandidiarite” and should still be able to make some money from the sale. I would love to see some pictures if possible!
Thanks. Teri
Thank you Troy, that is very helpful
