Ethiopian Opals

I just bought this, and it’s my first purchase. I do understand not much can be said based on a picture, but if anyone can share any critical info, it will be great. I just want to learn, thank you in advance.

Ethiopian Opal is EXTREMELY HEAT SENSITIVE as compared to any other variety of Opal.Australian being the least sensitive followed by Canadian ,then Brazilian and finally Mexican.
Generate too much heat during polishing and you will have pieces in short order.

Ethiopian opal is a trick to cut because they tend to shatter when heated. I have cut several of them by hand and had great luck. Using any mechanical means is tricky. I have used diamond files on them and had great success. Be sure to look them over for cracks before trying to cut them. If you do use a mechanical means, be sure to keep them under cool water, not cold.
All the best on cutting and finishing.
