Hello to all IGS Community,
Today I am going to walk through the complete process of cutting these Oregon Sunstones we received from a customer from Washington, USA
Step 1 – Rough Evaluation
First my master cutters will carefully evaluate the rough sunstones to decide how to cut them. Usually, our customer sends us specific instructions on how they want the stones cut. In this case customer has given the cutter the choice to select the best cut and shape for the stones.
Step 2 – Slicing
Some rough stones are too big with inclusions and will not yield a good-looking stone, so we have to slice them into multiple pieces to make up few good-looking stones, in this particular stone there is a crack. So, we will slice it into 2 pieces from the crack to get 2 clean stones
Step 3 – Pre-Shaping
In this stage after all the stones are evaluated and sliced, our cutter will pre-shape the stones into the shapes. We don’t cut and chop the precious rough that we receive from our customers. We put the extra time and effort in evaluating, shaping and cutting the stones as it were our own gemstones to achieve the highest quality finished gemstones.
Step 4 – Doping
After the stones are pre shaped we will stick them into dop sticks for shaping.
Step 5- Shaping & Sanding
Sunstones will now be shaped accurately and sent into our sanding unit where Our cutters will cut the cuts and sand the stones.
Step 6 – Polishing and QC
Finally, the sunstones will be polished into high quality American/European standard quality gemstones and sent into our quality control unit to thoroughly check the gemstones and make sure the highest quality gem cutting quality is achieved before shipping back to the customer.
Final results.
