Colour change Alexandrite

I am currently grading Brazilian colour change Alexandrite (green to red) which has been certified at Tokyo labs in Sri Lanka. Some pieces are quite large 15-20cts and more are expected to pass certification up to 50 carats. Pricing matrix is only up to 10ct stones. Can anyone help with a guide to the larger stones $ per carat. I’m aware of the demand for Alexandrite and want to make sure I’m valuing it correctly for my client. Advice greatly received

Hi Sappho,

I am not familiar with Tokyo Labs in Sri Lanka. If these stones are truly chrysoberyl var. Alexandrite, they would be quite high value stones.

Honestly, I would be wary of stones being presented for valuation above 1 or 2 carats. A second opinion on the stone’s origin and whether or not they are natural or a simulant would be first thing I recommend.

Here is a good reference from GIA: Alexandrite Gemstone | Natural Alexandrite Stone - GIA

GemVal valuation assessment has nothing above 5ct.

Cheers!
