To verify it is actually Amber vs plastic or such all one need do is to warm water on the stove to dissolve as much salt as can be held in the water. Let the water cool to room temp and place the Amber in the saturated salt water solution, Amber will float at the surface much like ice and plastic will sink. From that point you can proceed with confidence trying to determine what your source might be.
