Beginner trouble cutting Tables

Hi

This is for all the experienced gem cutters who may be able to help me. While cutting tables (using the 45-degree adapter) while cutting gemstones I can only make Octagon shaped tables. I can’t for instance, make square-shaped tables for my Squilliant design (ended up ruining a piece of amethyst over it) and so I simply have no idea how to cut a Table facet in the shape that I want it to be in.

Has anybody ever had this problem, and if so, what did you do to fix it and to be able to cut tables as squares, circles, rectangles, triangles etc?

Thanks
Mr Ewen

When you say Table facets are you referring to Crown Main facets or the actual Table?

As long as the crown meets are good, the table should cut in w/o regard to final shape. If your crown meets are off, then you’ll never get the table right.
You need to make sure your 45-degree adapter is perpendicular to the lap. Small adjustments can be made by height and cheater corrections.
