The material in question is known as a"Pyrite Sun" and is generally found in Illinois, during the process of coal strip mining, generally at a depth of about 125 to 200 feet. Sparta, Illinois has been the production center for many years.
Getting harder to find since all of the enviromental policies have gone into effect.
