Corundum identification

Hello ,is this ruby good. Its got silk, transparent to translucent.8.5 carat mozambique.does the silk harm the value.

I don’t think the silk harms the value. If anything, it helps provide evidence of its natural origin. The cut and clarity will be more significant in assessing its value.

That is a really nice chunky ruby!

Honestly, the report from Lotus is more interesting to me than the stone. Gold Reports from them varies from one stone to another. Some of the gold reports I have seen, has less information than this one does, and some have more contained on pages 2 and 3. I am not sure I understand how Lotus determines what information at a minimum is contained in each tier of their report format.

This isn’t a big issue because each stone may not have consistent data to present. It just seems slightly inconsistent, IMHO.

I guess I am just being picky…

Cheers!

Thank you for your reply. Most reports are confusing, they give you the origin and say that diff labs might have diff opinions. And one pays extra for the origin. And I’m totally loving the silk it looks amazing in light , I think I’d prefer it to a clearer stone.

if there is sufficient silk content in the stone, it might be a candidate to be recut into a star ruby.

But I suspect the gem cutter already evaluated that possibility and decided it wouldn’t.

I agree… its a pretty nice stone as is. I don’t think I’d change it.

Hi again,What could those inclusions be.both certified ,one a color changing sapphire and another a ruby.just wondering about the inclusion.

IMG_5466: Curved striae are visible. The inclusion in the center could be from a flux filled cavity but it is difficult to see sufficient details to be certain.

IMG_5465: The inclusion might be a healed flux-filled fracture. But the acicular (needle-like) portion could be from a larger rutile crystal, that was damaged during a heat treatment process. I haven’t seen one like this before, so I am not sure.

Hopefully someone with more experience with inclusions in corundum can identify it.
